Debra Heidgen, MD
Dr. Heidgen is board certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has proudly practiced pediatrics in Leavenworth since 1984 and provides care for newborns through adolescence. She has medical privileges at Cushing Hospital, St. John's Hospital, and Providence Hospital. Dr. Heidgen is Clinical Instructor at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and teaches medical students pediatric medicine. She has been President of Cushing Hospital Medical Staff since 2012.
Dr. Heidgen has been married for 32 years with two grown children. She was born in Wiesbaden, Germany and attended the University of Kansas where she obtained a degree in Biology (1976). She received her medical education at the University of Kansas School of Medicine (1979) and completed her pediatric training at KU (1982).
Dr. Heidgen has two sons and three grandchildren.

Vernon Mills, MD
Dr. Mills is board certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics and has been practicing general pediatrics in Leavenworth for more than three decades. He is an active member of the National Medical Association and the American Medical Association. He has served on the Board of Directors for Saint John Hospital, the Sunflower Foundation, KAMMCO, and Heartland Health. He was president of the Kansas Medical Society, president of the Kaw Valley Medical Society, and served as president of the medical staff at St. John Hospital for two terms.
Dr. Mills was born in Littleton, NC and received a degree in Pharmacy (1974). He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine (1977) and completed his pediatric training at D.C. General Hospital (1979). He then completed a Pediatric Infectious Disease Fellowship at the University of Texas at Houston (1980).
Dr. Mills and his wife, Cheryl, have four grown children (two daughters and two sons) and four grandchildren.
